How to Upgrade or Downgrade Your Hosting Plan

As your website grows, you may need more resources - or you might want to scale down to a plan that better fits your current needs. dotCanada makes it easy to change your hosting plan from within your client area.

How to Upgrade or Downgrade

  1. Log in to your dotCanada client area.
  2. Go to Services and click on the hosting plan you'd like to change.
  3. Look for the Upgrade/Downgrade option in the product management page.
  4. Select the new plan you'd like to move to.
  5. Review the pricing difference and confirm the change.

Proration When Upgrading

When you upgrade mid-billing cycle, dotCanada calculates the cost difference for the remaining time in your current period. You'll be charged the prorated amount - so you only pay for the upgrade from the date of the change, not the full billing period. See the article Understanding Proration When Upgrading Plans for more details.

Downgrading Your Plan

Downgrading is also possible, though you should ensure the lower-tier plan can accommodate your current resource usage - including storage, bandwidth, and the number of hosted sites. If your usage exceeds the limits of the new plan, your sites may be affected.

When Does the Change Take Effect?

Plan upgrades typically take effect immediately. Downgrades may be applied at the next renewal date depending on the plan type.
