How to Restore an SSL Certificate Using JetBackup

If your SSL certificate configuration was accidentally removed or became corrupted, JetBackup can restore a previous version directly from your automatic daily backups.

Steps to Restore an SSL Certificate

  1. Log in to cPanel and open JetBackup from the Files section.
  2. Click SSL Certificates in the JetBackup dashboard.
  3. Find the domain whose SSL certificate you want to restore.
  4. Select the backup snapshot date you'd like to restore from.
  5. Click the restore icon and confirm when prompted.

JetBackup will restore the SSL certificate and its associated configuration from the selected snapshot.

When to Use This

  • If your site is showing an SSL warning after a configuration change
  • If an SSL certificate was removed accidentally
  • If you need to revert to a previously working certificate setup

Things to Keep in Mind

SSL certificates have expiry dates. Restoring an older certificate configuration may not resolve an issue caused by an expired certificate - in that case, you'll need to renew or reissue the certificate rather than restore a backup.

If your site is on AutoSSL (dotCanada's automatic SSL service via Let's Encrypt), the certificate may simply need to be reissued. You can do this from cPanel > SSL/TLS Status.

If you're unsure whether a restore or a reissue is the right approach, contact our support team and we'll help you get your site back to secure.
