How to Download a Backup Locally Using JetBackup
In addition to restoring backups directly on the server, JetBackup lets you download a complete account backup to your local computer. This gives you an offsite copy you can store for extra protection.
Steps to Download a Backup
- Log in to cPanel and open JetBackup from the Files section.
- Click Full Backups in the JetBackup dashboard.
- Find the backup date you'd like to download from the list of available snapshots.
- Click the Download button next to that snapshot.
- JetBackup will prepare the backup file. Once it's ready, your browser will prompt you to save the file to your computer.
The downloaded file is a compressed archive of your full account, including files, databases, email accounts, DNS zones, cron jobs, and SSL certificates.
Why Download a Local Copy?
- To keep an offsite backup before a major site change
- To migrate your site to another host
- To maintain a personal archive separate from server storage
- As part of a 3-2-1 backup strategy (more on that in our best practices guide)
Storage Tip
Downloaded backups can be large. Store them in a reliable location such as an external drive or cloud storage service like Google Drive or Dropbox. Label each file with the date so you can find the right version quickly.
If the download doesn't start or the backup file seems incomplete, contact our support team and we'll help you get a clean copy.
