How to Upgrade a Client Account in WHM
As your clients' businesses grow, so do their hosting needs. Upgrading a client's account in WHM is a quick process that immediately applies new resource limits without any downtime for the client's website.
Steps to Upgrade a Client Account
- Log into WHM at
https://yourdomain.com:2087 - Go to Account Functions then Modify an Account
- Search for the client's account by username or domain name
- Click the account to open its settings
- In the Package section, select the new, higher-tier package from the dropdown
- Alternatively, select Manual Settings to adjust individual resource limits without changing the package
- Click Save to apply the changes immediately
Verifying the Upgrade
After saving, return to List Accounts and confirm the account's disk quota and other limits now reflect the new package. The client can verify within their own cPanel under Statistics.
Updating Billing
If you use WHMCS for billing, remember to update the client's product in WHMCS to match their new plan. This ensures their invoices reflect the correct pricing going forward.
Downgrading an Account
The same process applies for downgrading - select a lower-tier package. Be careful when downgrading to ensure the client's current usage falls within the new limits. If their disk usage exceeds the new quota, the account may experience issues.
Tips
- Always confirm the upgrade with the client in writing
- Update your billing system before or immediately after making the WHM change
