How to Transfer a cPanel Account Between Servers

There are several scenarios where you might need to transfer a cPanel account: migrating a client from another host to your reseller, moving accounts between reseller plans, or consolidating servers. WHM offers a built-in Transfer Tool for this purpose.

Method 1: WHM Transfer Tool (Recommended)

1. In WHM on the destination server, go to Transfers then Transfer Tool
2. Enter the source server's hostname or IP address
3. Provide the root or reseller login credentials for the source server
4. Click Fetch Account List to retrieve the list of available accounts
5. Select the account(s) you want to transfer
6. Click Copy to begin the transfer

WHM will copy all files, databases, emails, and DNS zones automatically.

Method 2: cPanel Backup and Restore

1. In the source cPanel account, go to Backup then Download a Full Account Backup
2. Download the backup file (.tar.gz) to your local machine
3. In WHM on the destination server, go to Backup then Restore a Full Backup/cpmove File
4. Upload the backup file and proceed with the restore

After Transfer

• Update DNS records to point to the new server IP
• Verify the website, email, and databases are working correctly
• Wait for DNS propagation (up to 48 hours) before decommissioning the old account
