How to Set Resource Limits for Client Accounts in WHM

One of the most powerful features of reseller hosting is the ability to allocate exactly the right resources to each client. WHM lets you set limits on disk space, bandwidth, email accounts, databases, subdomains, and more.

Setting Limits via Packages (Recommended)

The best way to manage resource limits is through Packages. Create a package with predefined limits and assign it to accounts at creation time. This makes it easy to apply consistent limits and upgrade clients later.

Go to Packages then Add a Package in WHM. Define your limits there, then assign the package when creating accounts.

Modifying an Existing Account's Limits

  1. In WHM, go to Account Functions then Modify an Account
  2. Search for the client's username or domain
  3. Click the account to open its settings
  4. Switch the package or click Manual Settings to customize individual limits
  5. Adjust values for: Disk Space Quota, Monthly Bandwidth, Max Email Accounts, Max Databases, Max Subdomains, Max FTP Accounts, and more
  6. Click Save to apply changes

Understanding Unlimited vs. Fixed Limits

  • Setting a value to 0 typically means unlimited in WHM
  • Be cautious with unlimited allocations - your reseller account has a total cap from dotCanada
  • It's best practice to set realistic limits so no single client consumes all your resources
