How to Suspend or Terminate a Client Account in WHM

Managing client accounts sometimes means taking action when a client hasn't paid, has violated terms, or simply needs their account closed. WHM gives you full control to suspend or terminate accounts quickly.

Suspending an Account

Suspension disables the account - websites and email stop working - but all data is preserved. This is the appropriate action for non-payment or temporary holds.

  1. In WHM, go to Account Functions then Manage Account Suspension
  2. Find the account by username or domain
  3. Select Suspend and optionally enter a reason
  4. Click Suspend Account

The client will see a suspended account page if they visit their website. You can unsuspend at any time by returning to this screen and selecting Unsuspend.

Terminating an Account

Termination is permanent and cannot be undone. All files, databases, emails, and settings are deleted. Only terminate an account when you are absolutely certain the data is no longer needed.

  1. In WHM, go to Account Functions then Terminate an Account
  2. Locate the account and confirm the termination
  3. Click Remove to permanently delete the account

  • Always suspend before terminating to give clients a grace period
  • Download a backup of the account before termination if there's any chance data will be needed
  • Document the reason for termination for your records
