How to Change a Client's cPanel Password in WHM

As a reseller, you have the ability to change any client's cPanel password directly from WHM. This is useful when a client is locked out of their account or when you need to perform maintenance on their behalf.

Steps to Change a cPanel Password

  1. Log into WHM at https://yourdomain.com:2087
  2. In the left sidebar, go to Account Functions then Change a Password
  3. Search for the client's account by username or domain name
  4. Enter a new password in the Password field, or click the password generator to create a strong random password
  5. Confirm the password in the second field
  6. Click Change Password to apply the update

After Changing the Password

  • Notify the client of their new password immediately
  • Advise them to change the password again themselves after logging in for security
  • If the password change was due to a security incident, remind the client to also update any FTP, email, and database passwords

Important Notes

Password changes in WHM update the cPanel login password only. They do not automatically change email account passwords, FTP passwords, or MySQL user passwords associated with that cPanel account - those must be updated separately within cPanel.

If you're locked out of WHM itself, contact our support team and we can assist with credential recovery.
