How to Export and Import Emails from Webmail
Roundcube webmail lets you export emails as .mbox files for backup purposes, and import messages from another account or client. Here's how to do both.
Exporting Emails from Roundcube
- Log in to your webmail at
yourdomain.com/webmail. - Open the folder you want to export (e.g., Inbox).
- Select all messages or the specific ones you want to save.
- Right-click the selected messages (or use the More menu) and choose Download (.mbox).
- The messages will be saved as an .mbox file on your computer.
Importing Emails into Roundcube
- Log in to webmail and go to Settings > Import.
- Choose the .mbox file you want to import.
- Select the destination folder.
- Click Import.
Alternative: IMAP Migration
If you're migrating from another email provider, the most reliable method is to set up both accounts in an email client like Thunderbird, then drag and drop messages between accounts. This copies everything - emails, folders, and attachments - while keeping the originals intact.
Exported .mbox files can also be opened in Thunderbird or other email clients that support the format. Need help with a migration? Contact our support team and we'll point you in the right direction.
