How to Create an Email Alias
An email alias lets you receive messages sent to one address in another mailbox - without creating a separate account. For example, you could have sales@yourdomain.ca and support@yourdomain.ca both deliver into your main inbox.
Creating an Alias Using Forwarders in cPanel
dotCanada uses cPanel's Forwarders feature to create email aliases:
- Log in to cPanel and go to Email > Forwarders.
- Click Add Forwarder.
- Enter the alias address (e.g.,
sales) and select your domain. - Set the destination to the main mailbox where you want those emails delivered.
- Click Add Forwarder.
Now any email sent to sales@yourdomain.ca will be delivered to your main inbox.
Alias vs. Separate Account
- An alias is lightweight - no separate inbox, login, or storage quota needed.
- A separate account is better if you want to send email from that address, or if multiple people need to access it independently.
Sending From an Alias Address
To send email from an alias address, you'll need to create an actual email account for it, or configure your email client to use that address as a sender alias. If you need help setting this up, contact our support team.
