How to Change an Email Account Password

You can change the password for any email account on your dotCanada hosting plan directly in cPanel. This is useful if you suspect unauthorised access, want to improve security, or simply need to update a forgotten password.

Steps to Change an Email Password in cPanel

  1. Log in to cPanel from your dotCanada dashboard.
  2. Go to Email > Email Accounts.
  3. Find the account you want to update and click Manage.
  4. Scroll down to the Security section.
  5. Enter your new password in the New Password field. Use the strength meter to ensure it's strong.
  6. Click Update Email Settings to save the change.

After Changing Your Password

Once the password is changed, you'll need to update it in every app or device where that email account is configured - including your phone, desktop client, and any apps that use the address. Failing to update the password on connected devices will cause your mail to stop syncing and may trigger repeated failed login attempts.

  • Update the password in Outlook, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird under account settings.
  • Update it on your iPhone, Android, or tablet in the device's mail settings.
  • Update it in any other services that send email using SMTP credentials.
