How to Redirect a Domain or URL in cPanel

Redirects allow you to automatically send visitors from one URL to another. This is useful when you move content to a new page, rename a domain, or want to forward traffic from an old URL to your current website. cPanel makes it simple to set up redirects without editing any server configuration files.

Types of Redirects

• 301 Permanent Redirect: Tells browsers and search engines that the page has moved permanently. This is the best choice for SEO, as it transfers ranking value to the new URL.
• 302 Temporary Redirect: Indicates the redirect is temporary. Use this for short-term situations where you plan to reinstate the original URL.

Steps to Create a Redirect

1. Log in to your cPanel account.
2. In the Domains section, click Redirects.
3. In the Type dropdown, choose either Permanent (301) or Temporary (302).
4. In the next dropdown, select the domain you want to redirect from. Leave it blank to apply the redirect to all domains on your account.
5. In the text field next to the domain, enter the specific path you want to redirect (for example, /old-page). Leave this empty to redirect the entire domain.
6. In the Redirects To field, enter the full destination URL, including https:// (for example, https://newdomain.ca).
7. Choose whether to redirect with or without www, or redirect all variations.
8. Optionally check Wild Card Redirect to redirect all files within a folder to the same filename at the new location.
9. Click Add to save the redirect.

Managing Existing Redirects

Scroll down the Redirects page to see all active redirects on your account. Click Delete next to any redirect you want to remove.
