How to Manage DNS Zones in cPanel

DNS (Domain Name System) records control how your domain connects to various services - including your website, email, and third-party tools. cPanel's Zone Editor gives you full control over your domain's DNS records. This is useful when setting up services like Google Workspace, configuring a CDN, or verifying domain ownership.

Accessing the Zone Editor

1. Log in to your cPanel account.
2. In the Domains section, click Zone Editor.
3. You will see a list of all domains on your account. Click Manage next to the domain whose DNS records you want to edit.

Common DNS Record Types

• A Record: Maps your domain to an IPv4 address. This is the core record that points your domain to your hosting server.
• AAAA Record: Maps your domain to an IPv6 address.
• CNAME Record: Creates an alias that points one domain name to another. Often used for www or third-party service verification.
• MX Record: Directs email for your domain to the appropriate mail server.
• TXT Record: Stores text-based data, commonly used for SPF, DKIM, and DMARC email authentication, or for domain verification with services like Google or Microsoft.
• NS Record: Specifies the nameservers for your domain.

Adding a New Record

1. On the Zone Editor Manage page, click Add Record.
2. Select the record type from the dropdown.
3. Fill in the Name, TTL, and Record fields as required by the service you are configuring.
4. Click Add Record to save.

Editing and Deleting Records

Existing records are listed on the Manage page. Click Edit to modify a record or Delete to remove it. Use caution when modifying A and MX records, as incorrect values can take your site or email offline.
