How to Create a Parked Domain in cPanel

A parked domain (also called an alias domain) is a domain name that points to the same website as your main domain. For example, if your primary site is yourdomain.ca, you could park yourdomain.com on it so that both addresses display the exact same website. This is commonly used to protect brand names or capture traffic from multiple domain extensions.

Before You Begin

The domain you want to park must be registered and its nameservers must be pointed to dotCanada. Update the nameservers at your registrar to ns1.dotcanada.com and ns2.dotcanada.com before proceeding.

Steps to Create a Parked Domain

1. Log in to your cPanel account.
2. In the Domains section, click Aliases (this is the current cPanel name for parked domains).
3. In the Domain to Park field, enter the domain name you want to park (for example, yourdomain.com).
4. Click Add Domain.

That is all there is to it. The parked domain will now resolve to the same content as your main domain. No separate document root or file upload is needed.

How Parked Domains Differ from Addon Domains

• Parked (Alias) Domain: Mirrors your main site. Visitors to either domain see the same website.
• Addon Domain: Hosts an entirely separate website with its own files and content.

Managing Parked Domains

To view or remove a parked domain, scroll down on the Aliases page. You will see a list of all currently parked domains. Click Remove next to any domain you no longer need to alias.

• Parking .com, .net, and .ca versions of the same domain.
• Covering common misspellings of your domain name.
• Protecting your brand across multiple extensions.
