How to Create an Addon Domain in cPanel

An addon domain lets you host a completely separate website under a different domain name, all within the same cPanel hosting account. This is perfect if you manage multiple websites and want to consolidate them under one plan. dotCanada's hosting plans support addon domains, letting you grow without needing additional accounts.

Before You Begin

Make sure the domain name you want to add is already registered and that its nameservers are pointed to dotCanada's servers. If the domain is registered elsewhere, update the nameservers to ns1.dotcanada.com and ns2.dotcanada.com through your registrar's control panel.

Steps to Create an Addon Domain

1. Log in to your cPanel account.
2. In the Domains section, click Addon Domains.
3. In the New Domain Name field, enter the domain you want to add (for example, mynewsite.ca).
4. The Subdomain and Document Root fields will auto-populate. The document root is the folder where your website files will live (for example, public_html/mynewsite.ca).
5. Optionally, create an FTP account for this domain by entering a password in the FTP account fields.
6. Click Add Domain to complete the setup.

After Adding the Domain

Once the addon domain is created, cPanel will set up the document root folder automatically. You can then upload your website files to that folder using File Manager or FTP. DNS records for the domain will be created automatically if the domain uses dotCanada's nameservers.

Managing Addon Domains

To view or remove existing addon domains, scroll down on the Addon Domains page to see all currently configured domains on your account.
