How to Back Up and Restore Email in Roundcube

Roundcube, dotCanada's webmail client, includes a built-in import/export feature that lets you save a copy of your emails and contacts to your computer. This is a handy way to keep a personal archive or move email data between accounts.

Exporting Emails from Roundcube

  1. Log in to Roundcube at webmail.yourdomain.com.
  2. Click the Settings gear icon (usually in the top-right corner).
  3. Go to Import/Export.
  4. Under the export section, choose what you'd like to export - messages or contacts.
  5. Click Export and save the file to your computer.

Emails are typically exported in .mbox format, and contacts in .vcf (vCard) format.

Importing Emails into Roundcube

  1. Log in to Roundcube and go to Settings > Import/Export.
  2. Under the import section, click Choose File and select your previously exported file.
  3. Click Import to begin the process.

Your messages or contacts will be added to the current account.

Limitations to Keep in Mind

  • The Roundcube export captures messages stored on the server at the time of export. It does not include emails that have already been deleted.
  • For a full server-level email backup, JetBackup is more comprehensive - it captures your entire mailbox as part of the daily account backup.

If you need to migrate a large volume of email or are moving between accounts, contact our support team and we can help find the best approach for your situation.
