How to Use MonsterInsights for Google Analytics

MonsterInsights connects your WordPress site to Google Analytics 4 (GA4), letting you view key traffic and audience reports directly inside your WordPress dashboard. dotCanada recommends MonsterInsights as an easy way to add analytics without touching your site’s code.

Before You Begin

You need a Google Analytics 4 property set up for your domain. If you have not done this yet, sign in at analytics.google.com, create an account, add a property for your website, and note your Measurement ID (formatted as G-XXXXXXXXXX).

Installing MonsterInsights

1. Go to Plugins > Add New in your WordPress dashboard.
2. Search for MonsterInsights.
3. Click Install Now, then Activate.

Connecting to Google Analytics

1. After activation, go to Insights > Settings.
2. Click Connect MonsterInsights.
3. Sign in with your Google account and authorize MonsterInsights to access your Analytics data.
4. Select your GA4 property from the dropdown and click Complete Connection.

Viewing Your Reports

Once connected, go to Insights > Reports to see an overview of your traffic, top pages, referral sources, and audience geography — all without leaving WordPress.
