How to Change Your WordPress Admin Email

Your WordPress admin email address is used for important notifications - things like new user registrations, password resets, and plugin alerts. Keeping it up to date ensures you never miss a critical message.

Where the Admin Email Lives

The administration email address is found under Settings > General in your WordPress dashboard. Look for the field labelled Administration Email Address.

Steps to Change Your Admin Email

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings > General.
  3. Locate the Administration Email Address field.
  4. Enter your new email address.
  5. Click Save Changes.

WordPress will send a confirmation email to the new address. You must click the confirmation link in that email before the change takes effect. Until confirmed, WordPress will continue using the old address.

What If You Can't Access the Old Email?

If you've lost access to the original admin email and can't receive the confirmation message, there are a couple of options:

  • Update the email directly in the database via phpMyAdmin - look for the admin_email option in the wp_options table.
  • Use WP-CLI: wp option update admin_email newaddress@example.com

Other Email Addresses in WordPress

Note that your admin email is separate from the email associated with your user profile. To change your personal contact email, go to Users > Profile and update the Email field there.
