How to Manage Email for Client Accounts in WHM
Email is one of the most critical services for your clients. As a reseller, you can manage email-related settings across all client accounts from WHM, and dive into individual cPanel accounts for deeper configuration.
Setting Email Limits per Account
When creating or modifying a cPanel account, you can set the maximum number of email accounts, mailing lists, and the hourly email send limit. Go to Account Functions then Modify an Account and adjust these values.
Viewing Mail Queue
- In WHM, go to Email then Mail Queue Manager
- View all messages currently queued for delivery across the server
- Delete stuck messages or investigate delivery failures
Email Routing Configuration
Each cPanel account can have its email routing set to Local Mail Exchanger (email hosted on the server), Remote Mail Exchanger (email hosted elsewhere, like Google Workspace), or Backup Mail Exchanger. Clients can configure this within their own cPanel, or you can adjust it on their behalf.
Managing Email from Inside cPanel
For creating individual email accounts, setting up forwarders, and configuring autoresponders, log directly into the client's cPanel from WHM. Go to Account Information then List Accounts and click the cPanel icon beside their account.
Troubleshooting Email Issues
- Check MX records are correctly set in the DNS zone
- Verify the account hasn't hit its email account limit
- Review the mail queue for bounce messages or errors
