How to Point Your Domain to Your Hosting (Nameservers)

If your domain is registered with a different company than dotCanada, you will need to update its nameservers to point it to your dotCanada hosting account. This tells the internet where to find your website and email. Here is how to do it.

Step 1: Find Your dotCanada Nameservers

dotCanada's nameservers are typically:

• ns1.dotcanada.com
• ns2.dotcanada.com

Your exact nameservers are also listed in your welcome email and inside your cPanel account. If you are unsure, contact our support team and we will confirm them for you.

Step 2: Log Into Your Domain Registrar

Go to the website where your domain is registered (for example, GoDaddy, Namecheap, or another registrar) and log into your account.

Step 3: Update the Nameservers

1. Find the domain you want to point to dotCanada
2. Locate the DNS Settings or Nameserver section
3. Replace the existing nameservers with dotCanada's nameservers listed above
4. Save your changes

Step 4: Wait for DNS Propagation

After updating your nameservers, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to propagate worldwide. During this time your website may be intermittently available. This is completely normal. Once propagation is complete, your domain will be fully pointed to your dotCanada hosting account.
