How to Set Up DKIM for Your Domain

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) adds a cryptographic signature to your outgoing emails. Receiving mail servers use this signature to verify that your email genuinely came from your domain and hasn't been tampered with in transit.

How to Enable DKIM in cPanel

  1. Log in to cPanel from your dotCanada dashboard.
  2. Go to Email > Email Deliverability.
  3. Find your domain in the list. If DKIM is not installed, you'll see a warning indicator.
  4. Click Manage next to your domain.
  5. Under the DKIM section, click Install (or Enable).
  6. cPanel will automatically generate the DKIM key and add the required DNS record to your zone.

Verifying DKIM Is Working

After enabling DKIM, send a test email to a Gmail address and open the message. Click the three-dot menu and choose Show Original. Look for dkim=pass in the Authentication-Results header.

You can also use MXToolbox or mail-tester.com to check your DKIM configuration.

Why DKIM Matters

  • It proves your email is legitimate and wasn't forged
  • It improves your sender reputation with email providers like Gmail and Outlook
  • It's a required component for a complete DMARC setup

DKIM, combined with SPF and DMARC, gives you a robust email authentication setup. Need help? Contact our support team.
