How to Update Your Domain Contact Information (WHOIS)

Your domain's contact information - often called WHOIS data - includes the registrant name, organization, address, phone number, and email. Keeping this information accurate is a requirement of domain registration, and outdated contact details can cause problems when you need to receive important notices (like transfer confirmations or EPP codes).

How to Update Your WHOIS Contact Information

1. Log in to your dotCanada client area.
2. Navigate to Domains and click on the domain you want to update.
3. Find the Contact Information or WHOIS Details section.
4. Edit the fields you need to update - name, organization, address, phone, and email.
5. Save your changes. Updates are typically reflected in the public WHOIS database within 24–48 hours.

Important Notes

• Admin contact email: This is especially important to keep current. EPP codes, transfer confirmations, and renewal notices are sent to this address.
• .ca domains: Changes to .ca contact information are subject to CIRA's policies. Certain registrant changes (like changing the registrant name) may require additional verification.
• Privacy protection: If you have WHOIS privacy enabled, your personal details won't appear publicly, but they still need to be accurate on file with dotCanada.

ICANN Verification

ICANN requires that registrant email addresses be verified. If you change your admin email address, you may receive a verification email - be sure to confirm it promptly to avoid your domain being suspended.
