Step-by-Step: Register a Domain

1. Search for your domain: Visit dotcanada.com and use the domain search tool to check if your desired name is available. Try a few variations if your first choice is taken.
2. Choose your TLD: Select the extension that best fits your needs. A .ca domain signals a Canadian presence, while .com is globally recognized.
3. Add to cart and register: Once you've found an available domain, add it to your cart. You'll be prompted to create or log in to your dotCanada account.
4. Enter contact information: Provide accurate WHOIS contact details - this is a requirement of domain registration. You can add privacy protection to hide your personal details from public WHOIS lookups.
5. Complete checkout: Choose your registration period (typically 1–10 years) and complete your purchase.

Important Notes

• .ca domains require Canadian presence. CIRA, which manages .ca registrations, will ask you to select a Canadian Presence Requirement (CPR) category during registration.
• Auto-renewal is available and recommended so your domain doesn't accidentally expire.
• Once registered, your domain will appear in your dotCanada client area where you can manage DNS, contact info, and more.
