How to Set Up Domain Auto-Renewal

An expired domain can take your website and email offline instantly, and in some cases another registrant can claim your name. Enabling auto-renewal ensures your domain is renewed automatically before it expires - no manual action required.

How to Enable Auto-Renewal

1. Log in to your dotCanada client area.
2. Click on Domains in the top navigation.
3. Select the domain you want to set up for auto-renewal.
4. Find the Auto-Renewal setting and toggle it to On.
5. Make sure you have a valid payment method saved in your account - auto-renewal can't process if your payment details are missing or expired.

When Does Auto-Renewal Charge?

dotCanada will attempt to charge your payment method on file prior to your domain's expiry date. You'll receive an email notification before the charge is processed so you're never caught off guard.

What If Auto-Renewal Fails?

If your payment method declines, dotCanada will notify you by email. It's important to update your payment details and manually renew your domain as quickly as possible to avoid any lapse in service.

Should I Still Watch My Expiry Dates?

Yes - even with auto-renewal enabled, it's good practice to keep an eye on your domain expiry dates. Log in to your client area periodically to confirm everything is up to date and your payment method is current.
