How to Get Your Domain Authorization (EPP) Code
When transferring a domain to a new registrar, you'll be asked for an EPP code - also known as an authorization code, auth code, or transfer key. This code proves you're the domain's rightful owner and authorizes the transfer.
How to Get Your EPP Code from dotCanada
- Log in to your dotCanada client area.
- Go to Domains and click on the domain you're transferring.
- Look for the EPP Code, Auth Code, or Authorization Code option.
- Click to request the code. It will be sent to the administrative contact email address associated with the domain.
- Check your inbox - the email is usually delivered within a few minutes.
Before You Request the Code
Make sure your domain is also unlocked (Transfer Lock disabled) before initiating the transfer at your new registrar. The EPP code alone isn't enough - both the unlock and the code are required.
Important Notes
- EPP codes are typically valid for a short period. Use it promptly once you receive it.
- The code is sent to the admin contact email - make sure that address is up to date in your WHOIS/contact information before requesting.
- If your domain is a
.ca, the EPP code is managed through CIRA's system but is still accessible via your dotCanada client area.
