How to Edit DNS Records in cPanel

cPanel's Zone Editor allows you to view and manage all the DNS records for your domain. Whether you need to add an A record, set up email with MX records, or verify your domain with a TXT record, it all happens here.

Accessing the Zone Editor

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Under the Domains section, click Zone Editor.
  3. You'll see a list of your domains. Click Manage next to the domain you want to edit.

Adding a New DNS Record

  1. In the Zone Editor, click Add Record.
  2. Select the record type from the dropdown (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.).
  3. Fill in the required fields - typically the Name, TTL, and Record value.
  4. Click Add Record to save.

Editing or Deleting an Existing Record

Find the record you want to change in the list. Use the Edit button to modify its values, or Delete to remove it. Be careful when deleting records - removing the wrong record can affect your website or email.

Tips for Editing DNS Records

  • Lower the TTL of a record before making changes so the update propagates faster.
  • DNS changes can take up to 24–48 hours to fully propagate.
  • The Zone Editor shows both dotCanada-managed records and any records you've added yourself.
