How to Use Track DNS in cPanel

The Track DNS tool in cPanel allows you to look up DNS information for any domain and trace the path between your computer and the server. It's a handy diagnostic tool when you're troubleshooting DNS propagation, email delivery issues, or connectivity problems.

Accessing Track DNS

1. Log in to cPanel at yourdomain.com/cpanel.
2. Go to the Domains section and click Track DNS.

Available Tools

Track DNS provides two main functions:

• Look Up DNS Records - performs a DNS lookup for a domain and returns its A, MX, NS, CNAME, and other DNS records. This is useful for confirming that DNS changes have propagated correctly.
• Trace Route - runs a traceroute from the server to a target domain or IP address, showing each network hop along the way. This helps identify where connection delays or failures are occurring.

How to Look Up DNS Records

1. Enter a domain name in the Domain field under Look Up DNS Records.
2. Click Look Up.
3. Review the returned DNS records to verify they match your expected configuration.

How to Run a Trace Route

1. Enter a domain or IP address in the Domain or IP field under Trace Route.
2. Click Trace Route.
3. Review the list of hops and response times to spot any network issues.

When to Use Track DNS
