How to Upload Files Using File Manager

The cPanel File Manager includes a built-in upload feature that lets you transfer files from your computer to your hosting account directly through your browser. This is a great option when you do not have an FTP client set up or need to quickly update a file on your site.

Steps to Upload Files

1. Log in to your cPanel account and open File Manager from the Files section.
2. Navigate to the folder where you want to upload your files. For your main website, this is usually the public_html folder.
3. Click the Upload button in the toolbar at the top of the page.
4. An upload page will open. Click Select File to browse your computer and choose one or more files, or drag and drop files directly into the upload area.
5. The files will upload automatically. A progress bar will show the upload status for each file.
6. When the upload is complete, click the link to return to your previous folder, or use the back button in your browser.

Tips for Uploading Files

• Uploading ZIP archives: If you have many files to upload, consider compressing them into a .zip file first. After uploading, right-click the ZIP file in File Manager and select Extract to unzip it directly on the server.
• File size limits: The browser upload tool has a file size limit. For very large files (over 200 MB), we recommend using FTP instead.
• Correct folder matters: Always double-check that you are uploading to the correct directory. Your main site files belong in public_html, while addon domain files go in their respective subdirectories.

After Uploading

Once your files are uploaded, they are immediately live on your hosting account. If you uploaded website files to public_html, you should be able to view them in your browser right away by visiting your domain name.
