How to Manage Subdomains in cPanel

Subdomains let you create separate sections of your website under a custom prefix - such as blog.yourdomain.com or shop.yourdomain.com. Each subdomain can point to its own folder on the server, making it easy to host multiple projects under one account.

Creating a Subdomain

  1. Log in to cPanel at yourdomain.com/cpanel.
  2. Go to the Domains section and click Subdomains.
  3. Enter the desired prefix in the Subdomain field (e.g., blog).
  4. Select the domain you want to attach it to from the dropdown.
  5. The Document Root field will auto-populate - you can customize this path if needed.
  6. Click Create.

Your new subdomain will be active within a few minutes once DNS propagates.

Managing Existing Subdomains

After creating a subdomain, you'll see it listed in the table below the creation form. From here you can:

  • Manage Redirection - redirect the subdomain to another URL.
  • Remove - delete the subdomain entirely.

Things to Know

Each subdomain gets its own document root folder on the server, so you can install a separate WordPress, upload unique files, or configure it however you like. Subdomains are fully independent from your main domain in terms of content.

If you want to install WordPress or another application on a subdomain, you can do so through Softaculous in cPanel - just select the subdomain as the target during installation.
