How to Export a Database Using phpMyAdmin

Exporting your database is an important step for backups, migrations, and development work. dotCanada makes this straightforward through phpMyAdmin, which is available directly from your cPanel.

Steps to Export Your Database

1. Log in to your cPanel account and navigate to the Databases section.
2. Click phpMyAdmin to open the database management interface.
3. In the left panel, click the name of the database you want to export.
4. Click the Export tab at the top of the page.
5. Choose your export method:
   • Quick - exports all tables in SQL format with default settings. This is suitable for most use cases.
   • Custom - gives you full control over which tables to include, the output format, and compression options.
6. For most situations, leave the format set to SQL and click Go.
7. Your browser will download a .sql file containing your database export.

Tips for a Successful Export

• If your database is large, use the Custom method and enable compression (gzip or zip) to reduce file size.
• Store your exported file in a safe location - cloud storage or an offline backup drive is recommended.
