How to Create an Email Autoresponder in cPanel

An email autoresponder automatically sends a reply whenever someone emails a specific address. This is great for out-of-office notices, vacation messages, or confirmation replies. dotCanada's cPanel makes it simple to set one up.

Creating an Autoresponder

  1. Log in to cPanel and navigate to the Email section.
  2. Click Autoresponders.
  3. Click Add Autoresponder.
  4. Fill in the following fields:
    • Character Set - leave as utf-8 for standard text.
    • Interval - how many hours to wait before sending another auto-reply to the same sender. Setting this to 24 prevents flooding a sender who emails you repeatedly.
    • Email - the address that will trigger the autoresponder (e.g., info).
    • From - the name shown in the auto-reply.
    • Subject - the subject line of the auto-reply.
    • Body - the content of your auto-reply message.
  5. Optionally set a Start and Stop date if the autoresponder is for a specific period, like a holiday.
  6. Click Create/Modify to save.

Managing Autoresponders

From the Autoresponders page, you can see all active autoresponders. Click Edit to update the message or Delete to remove one.

Tips

  • Keep your auto-reply message brief and informative - include when the sender can expect a real response.
  • Autoresponders still work even if the email address has a forwarder set up.
  • Avoid autoresponders on catch-all addresses, as they can generate large volumes of replies to spam.
