How to Block an IP Address in cPanel

If you are experiencing unwanted traffic, repeated login attempts, or malicious activity from a specific IP address, you can block it using cPanel's built-in IP Blocker tool. dotCanada's cPanel makes it straightforward to deny access to individual IPs or entire ranges.

Blocking an IP Address

1. Log in to cPanel and go to the Security section.
2. Click IP Blocker.
3. In the Add an IP or Range field, enter the IP address or range you want to block. Supported formats include:
   • Single IP: 192.168.1.100
   • Range with wildcard: 192.168.1. (blocks the entire /24 subnet)
   • CIDR notation: 192.168.1.0/24
   • Range: 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.50
4. Click Add. The IP will be blocked immediately.

Removing a Blocked IP

To unblock an IP address, scroll to the Currently-Blocked IP Addresses list at the bottom of the page. Find the entry you want to remove and click Delete next to it.

What Happens to Blocked Visitors?

Visitors from a blocked IP will receive a 403 Forbidden error when they attempt to access your website. The block is applied at the server level via .htaccess rules.

• Before blocking a range, double-check that the range doesn't include legitimate users such as your office or clients.
