How to Fix Email Not Syncing on Mobile
If your email isn't updating on your phone or tablet, here are the most common causes and how to fix them.
1. Check Your Internet Connection
Make sure your device has an active internet connection - Wi-Fi or mobile data. Try opening a webpage to confirm.
2. Force a Manual Sync
In most email apps, pull down on the inbox to refresh. On iPhone, tap the refresh icon at the bottom of the Mail app. On Android, open the Gmail or Email app menu and tap Refresh.
3. Check for Password Changes
If you recently changed your email password in cPanel, you need to update it on your device too. Go to your device's Mail settings, find the account, and update the password there.
4. Verify Your IMAP Settings
Go to your account settings and confirm:
- Incoming server:
mail.yourdomain.com, port 993, SSL - Outgoing server:
mail.yourdomain.com, port 465 or 587 - Username: your full email address
5. Check Background App Refresh
On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and make sure Mail is enabled. On Android, check your battery optimisation settings - aggressive battery saving can prevent background syncing.
6. Remove and Re-add the Account
Sometimes the quickest fix is to delete the account from your device and add it again from scratch. Your IMAP mail stays on the server, so nothing is lost.
