How to Use the Zone Editor in cPanel

The Zone Editor in cPanel is your central hub for managing all DNS records for your domains. It gives you full control over A records, CNAME records, MX records, TXT records, and more - all in one place.

Accessing the Zone Editor

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Scroll to the Domains section and click Zone Editor.
  3. You'll see a list of all domains associated with your hosting account. Click Manage next to the domain you want to work with.

What You'll See

The Zone Editor displays all current DNS records for your domain in a table. Each row shows the record's Name, TTL, Type, and Record value. You'll see both system-generated records (like your default A record and nameserver entries) and any custom records you've added.

Adding a New Record

Click Add Record at the top of the page. Select your record type from the dropdown (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.), fill in the required fields, and click Add Record to save.

Editing an Existing Record

Find the record you want to change, click Edit, update the values, and save. Be careful not to accidentally modify critical records like your root A record or MX records unless you intend to.

Deleting a Record

Click Delete next to any record you want to remove. Deletions take effect quickly but may take time to propagate. Double-check before deleting - removing the wrong record can break your website or email.

Tips for Using the Zone Editor

  • Lower the TTL before making important changes so they propagate faster.
  • Keep notes on any changes you make so you can roll them back if needed.
