How to Add a TXT Record

TXT records allow you to store text information in your domain's DNS zone. They're commonly used for domain verification, email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), and proving ownership of a domain to a third-party service.

Common Uses for TXT Records

• Domain verification: Google, Microsoft, and other services ask you to add a TXT record to prove you own the domain.
• SPF records: Specify which mail servers are allowed to send email on behalf of your domain.
• DKIM records: Add a cryptographic signature to outgoing email to reduce spam classification.
• DMARC records: Define a policy for how receiving servers should handle email that fails SPF or DKIM checks.

How to Add a TXT Record in cPanel

1. Log in to cPanel and go to Domains > Zone Editor.
2. Click Manage next to your domain.
3. Click Add Record and select TXT from the Type dropdown.
4. In the Name field, enter the hostname (use @ or your domain name for the root domain, or a subdomain like _domainkey for DKIM).
5. In the Record field, paste the full text string provided by the service you're configuring.
6. Click Add Record to save.

Tips

• TXT record values provided by external services must be entered exactly - copy and paste rather than typing them manually.
• Multiple TXT records on the same name are supported, so you can have SPF, DKIM, and a verification record all at the same time.
