How to Use MultiPHP Manager in cPanel

The MultiPHP Manager in cPanel lets you assign different PHP versions to different domains and subdomains on the same hosting account. This is incredibly useful if you host multiple websites - for example, one site that needs PHP 7.4 and another that requires PHP 8.2.

Accessing MultiPHP Manager

  1. Log in to cPanel at yourdomain.com/cpanel.
  2. Navigate to the Software section and click MultiPHP Manager.

Assigning a PHP Version to a Domain

  1. In the vHost table, you'll see all domains and subdomains associated with your account.
  2. Check the checkbox next to one or more domains you want to update.
  3. Use the PHP Version dropdown at the top of the page to select the desired version.
  4. Click Apply to save the changes.

The selected PHP version will be applied immediately to those domains.

System Default vs. Per-Domain Versions

Each domain can either use the System Default PHP version (set by dotCanada's server configuration) or a custom version you specify. Setting a custom version for a domain overrides the system default for that domain only.

Best Practices

  • Check your CMS or application's PHP requirements before choosing a version.
  • After switching versions, visit your site and check for errors.
  • Use the error log in Metrics > Errors to catch any PHP compatibility issues.
  • Keep PHP as up to date as possible - newer versions offer better performance and security.
