How to Connect a Custom Domain to SiteJet
Connecting a Custom Domain to SiteJet
Your dotCanada hosting plan includes a domain that works automatically with SiteJet. But if you want your site accessible at a custom domain (like yourbusiness.ca), here's how to connect it.
Option 1: Domain Hosted with dotCanada
If your domain is already registered and hosted with dotCanada, it will typically be connected to your hosting account automatically. SiteJet will serve your website at that domain once you publish.
Option 2: Connecting a Domain in SiteJet Settings
- In the SiteJet editor, open the Settings panel from the left or top menu.
- Navigate to Settings > Domain.
- Enter your custom domain name and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If your domain is registered elsewhere, you'll need to update your domain's DNS records to point to dotCanada's servers. Your domain registrar's control panel is where you'll make those changes.
DNS Settings to Update
- Set your domain's A record to point to your dotCanada hosting IP address.
- Alternatively, update the nameservers to dotCanada's nameservers for full DNS management.
- DNS changes can take up to 24–48 hours to propagate globally.
Verifying the Connection
Once DNS has propagated, visit your custom domain in a browser. Your SiteJet website should load. If it doesn't appear after 48 hours, contact our support team and we'll help verify your DNS configuration.
