How to Set Up IP Address Blocking in cPanel
If you're experiencing spam, brute force attacks, or harassment from specific IP addresses, cPanel's IP Blocker lets you deny access to those addresses before they can reach your website.
How to Block an IP Address
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Go to Security › IP Blocker.
- In the Add an IP or Range field, enter the IP address or range you want to block.
- Click Add.
Supported Formats
cPanel's IP Blocker accepts several formats:
- Single IP:
192.168.1.100 - Range with wildcard:
192.168.1.(blocks all IPs in that subnet) - CIDR notation:
192.168.1.0/24 - Range:
192.168.1.1-192.168.1.50
How to Remove a Blocked IP
To unblock an IP, scroll down to the Currently Blocked IPs list, find the entry, and click Delete.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Don't accidentally block your own IP address - you can find your current IP by searching "what is my IP" in Google before making changes.
- IP blocking works at the Apache level. For more advanced protection against bots and attackers, consider enabling ModSecurity or using Cloudflare in front of your site.
- Blocking is applied to your entire cPanel account, not just a single website.
