How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on Your Account
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a critical second layer of security to your cPanel login. Even if your password is compromised, an attacker would also need access to your phone to log in. We strongly recommend enabling 2FA on every dotCanada hosting account.
What You'll Need
You'll need a free authenticator app on your smartphone. Popular options include:
- Google Authenticator (iOS & Android)
- Authy (iOS & Android - also supports backups)
- Microsoft Authenticator (iOS & Android)
How to Enable 2FA in cPanel
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Go to Security › Two-Factor Authentication.
- Click Set Up Two-Factor Authentication.
- A QR code will appear - open your authenticator app and scan it.
- Enter the 6-digit code generated by the app to confirm the setup.
- Click Save.
After Enabling 2FA
Every time you log in to cPanel, you'll be asked for your password and then a time-sensitive 6-digit code from your authenticator app. Codes refresh every 30 seconds, so they can't be reused by attackers.
Important: Store your backup codes somewhere safe. If you lose access to your authenticator app without a backup, you may be locked out of your account. If that happens, contact our support team for account recovery assistance.
